How to Select the Perfect Frame Size

How to Select the Perfect Frame Size

Here is the biggest mistake people make when purchasing frames for their photographs: they determine the size of the frame based on where they want that frame to live in their home. Sounds pretty logical, right? It is.. until you realize that you probably won’t be living in that house forever. People move (every 7-10 years on average), and they take their stuff with them. Which means that perfectly sized frame will soon have to fill a totally different spot…

It's Included! 10 Things That Don't Cost Extra

Every day, I look for little extras I can include in my business to make my service just a little bit better. Now, I'm very selective about this because if I start throwing everything and the kitchen sink in for free, I will have to raise my prices to cover the additional cost. The things that are included with each session make the biggest impact on the final images. They are almost essential to the process, but a lot of the time photographers will either not take the time to do them, or won't include them for free…

Behind the Scenes: Printing

Behind the Scenes: Printing

I print my own work. And I do it for two reasons. 1) The turnaround is much faster because I am not waiting on a vendor to do their part, and then for shipping of the final product. My timing from photo session to final presentation of printed photographs is right around 1 week. And 2) I can control every part of the process…

Taking Care of Your Prints

Taking Care of Your Prints

One of the reasons my clients love their family photographs so much is because of the quality and presentation of the final product. In fact, all of the printing is done with museum quality materials and standards. And as with anything that you would like to last, you need to take special care to ensure they remain pristine for future generations.

Here are some guidelines on how to take care of your photographs...

NEW Heirloom Boxes!

I announced previously my need to find a new vendor for the heirloom presentation boxes that are included in my top two Collections. After an extensive search, I'm so excited to show you the new product. They are hand-crafted by Michael Chinn in San Fransisco California (you can see more of his work on his website: http://michaelchinn.com/) and he's been making them since 1999 after training under a master bookbinder from England!

I love the clean lines and the simple design.. which fits so well with the style of photography my clients hire me to do. Most of all, it's the best way to keep your precious photographs safe and guarantee their longevity while still being able to enjoy them.

Less, but Better

Less, but Better

Every day I battle against the pile of "stuff" that comes into my house. My son's ever-growing Lego collection, mountains of mail, snacks and food (which doesn't always get eaten), and clutter.. oh, the clutter.. that nobody seems to care about except for ME. Yes, it's part of living with boys (I am the only female in our household), but it's also something I've come to care deeply about as I've gotten older.

The Value of a Print

The Value of a Print

I hear a lot of "I love how you believe in prints". Which makes me a bit uncomfortable, because it's not about believing in tangible products at all. I simply want my clients to receive something that is more valuable than digital files. I want them to walk away not having wasted their money on an image that might be pretty, but will never see the light of day.
