This year's Christmas morning was just the four of us - an intimate family event that involved opening presents, pancakes, and getting ready to drive to Vermont. Christmas morning is also one of the few times of the year I put a flash unit on my DSLR (because it's still dark out when everyone gets up) and go to town documenting the proceedings. I prefer the black & white over color for these types of photographs. There's somehow less clutter when it's all just shades of gray. This is the time when I don't worry about perfect composition or lighting. I simply look for those special little moments and press the shutter.
