Most photographers will tell you that you should schedule your newborn baby's photo session within the first 2 weeks of birth. That timing is essential if you're looking for peaceful sleepy baby images in a stylized setting. The best thing about lifestyle baby photography is that taking some time after birth (for instance, to recover from a C-section or difficult labor) is totally okay! I love how peaceful and calm a baby is when you simply have mom and dad hold her.
Madeline was about one month old when we did her "newborn" baby pictures. She was such a wonderful, calm, and happy little girl! We took lots of feeding brakes and she dozed off a few times. In turn, we were able to truly capture a wide range of expressions. Griffin, her big brother, took a while to warm up, which is one of the reasons I love not having a time limit for my photo sessions. After about two hours, Griffin was really excited to show me his room and we had such a fun time looking at his favorite sea creatures. I probably could have stayed.. photographing, chatting, and playing.. the whole entire day, that's how much I love this family! They are long-time friends and I cherish the opportunity to see them, even if it is only once or twice a year.
Towards the end, we got the most amazing family shots with a very happy three-year old, too. My heart melts every time I look at these sweet images of Madeline and I am so grateful that Mom and Dad chose me to document this very special time in their lives.
