5 New Ideas to Try for Your Holiday Card This Year

Receiving holiday greeting cards from friends and family is one of the biggest highlights of the holiday season. And every year, we see new and exciting technology and designs become available with the big greeting card companies like Minted and TinyPrints.

This year, I am partnering with Minted.com to provide an easy and quick way for my clients to order their holiday cards, but one of the biggest benefits is access to a couple really cool options. So here are 5 fun new ways to approach your holiday cards this year.

*Please note that the photos used in this Blog post came directly from Minted.com’s website and are not my imagery.

1. Custom Foil

Foil-pressed holiday cards have been super popular in the last couple of years, and for good reason! They’re fun and exciting, and yes, shiny! But now, companies are taking foil-press to a whole new level with custom foil options. Traditionally the way foil-pressing works is that there’s a set design element that is then pressed down using heat to apply the foil. With advancement in technology, companies like Minted can now add custom template elements to your card, too! Yes, it does cost extra, since they’re going through a few extra steps by having to create a custom template for your card, but the wow-factor is definitely worth it! And because this is very much a NEW thing, your card will certainly stand out.

You can add custom foil to any card set, be sure to click the little box that says “Personalize your names and any text with foil”.

2. Minimalist holiday cards

I love all the amazing designs that are on Minted (they’re created by independent artists, btw), but there’s also something very appealing about a simple minimalist style that speaks to me. When everyone is loading up their cards with flourishes, patterns, and colorful design elements, go in the completely opposite direction with a bold type and a standout image! Be sure to select the best possible paper option as that will make all the difference!

3. Ornament Cards

If something can be both pretty AND useful, that is a win-win in my book! These ornament cards are perfect for extended family members and grandparents who would absolutely love a personalized addition to their holiday tree decor. Obviously this wouldn’t work as well for friends and business acquaintances, so definitely keep that in mind!

4. Custom printed envelopes

This is one of those things I’m super excited about. Custom printed envelopes, with designs that match your holiday card and even a custom mail stamp to match if you really want to go all the way. The best part, of course, is the time-saving aspect of having Minted take care of addressing and stamping your cards for you! I have many clients who simply love the fact that these online services have their friend & family address list ready to go and all they have to do is literally press a button to get all their holiday cards out and done with!

You can add custom-printed envelopes to any holiday card order or design!

5. Letterpress Cards

Printed on ultra-thick paper and hand-pressed using an antique Heidelberg letterpress, these letterpress cards are traditional, modern, and super luxurious, all rolled into one. The texture on these cards is AMAZING and they will definitely stand out from the rest. Do note that because of the texture on the letterpress paper, the printed photo won’t be as crisp as some other paper options - but what you’re losing in printed detail is balanced by how hefty and tactile the card feels in your hand. It’s a different kind of experience, which I’m sure many recipients will really appreciate and be impressed by!

I hope you got some inspiration from the above tips for this year’s holiday cards! So many moms feel super stressed out about sending them out every year, but it really doesn’t have to be so unpleasant! It’s such a joy to receive a card that’s just a little bit different from the rest, so the effort you put into your cards does pay off! And remember, keep it simple, let someone else handle the details, and cherish every single year of memories that is represented by these cards!
