Lindsey Wells is a naturopathic physician in Wilton Connecticut. She has a lengthy list of qualifications (as well as a book she wrote!) for her practice in integrative care for PANS/PANDAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Lyme Disease, neurodevelopmental disorders, and various chronic illnesses. And the reason she reached out to me was because she wanted professional images to use for her social media (specifically Instagram) account.
Like a lot of my clients, Lindsey wasn’t particularly experienced in front of the camera and needed someone who could walk her through all the poses and allow her to feel comfortable during the session. She has a lovely personality and simply needed someone who could capture that honestly and authentically.
There are also a few things that make Lindsey’s session pretty unique. She published a children’s book and needed images to highlight and promote it on social media. She often brings her therapy dog Ed to the office so her clients can feel more relaxed, especially during the more stressful parts like a blood draw that’s often necessary for running tests. (So we definitely needed to highlight Ed in the images.) She also needed natural lifestyle portraits PLUS more professional Studio headshot for all her speaking engagements. And she didn’t have a lot of time to devote to planning since she has a small child and a business to take care of on a daily basis.
Our solution was to meet in her professional office in Wilton on Sunday, when the practice is closed, and focus on the key areas that she absolutely needed to capture: her book, showcasing her personality and warmth, and professional headshots. We pre-planned outfit options and had a “shot list” going in so we knew exactly what our goal was. While the office isn’t a huge space, we were able to utilize several rooms and multiple outfit changes to get a large variety of images in a fairly small amount of time. And Ed, of course, provided plenty of encouragement and photo opportunities. Once we wrapped the lifestyle shots, we were able to set up a mobile Studio in one of the rooms and go through several rounds of professional headshot poses that Lindsey will be able to use for future speaking engagements and events.
