Favorite Books From My 2021 Reading List

Reading has been one of my most treasured morning pleasures this past year. My routine is to wake up at 6:00am, make lunch for my 7-year old (the 11-year old thankfully buys his own lunch at school now), boil some water and make my cup of black tea. Then I typically start a fire (this only applies to the cold fall and winter months, obviously) and sit in my armchair with the cat on my lap to enjoy 30 minutes of silence and reading before I have to get the children ready for school. I also often read in the evening, before bed, to round out the day and sometimes during the day as time allows. Really I just prefer reading to watching TV and always have a stack of books to choose from at the ready.

Since I borrow most of the books I read from the library, my favorite books each year aren’t necessarily hot new releases, but rather books that have been around for some time (although I do get my hands on express books once in a while). I typically read non-fiction in the morning and enjoy a fictional novel in the evening, so there’s a mix of both. And yes, I have given up on books halfway before, if I find the reading slow going and painful. If you want to know a bit more about my reading habits, I’ve outlined them all in my previous Blog post here: https://www.nlalorphotography.com/blog/what-i-learned-from-my-60-books-a-year-goal-in-2019.

All in all, I read over ninety books in 2021 and wanted to share some of my favorites for this past year…
