CT Dermatology Small Business Brand Photoshoot
CT Dermatology Group has several office locations in Connecticut and needed brand photography for a magazine article in the Greenwich Lifestyle Magazine March 2021 issue. We scheduled a photoshoot in each of the locations: Milford, Greenwich, Norwalk, and Stamford and were able to capture about 200 images of everything from interior and exterior photos, dermatologists working with patients, the office environment, lifestyle photos, and product images.
Each photoshoot was fairly quick-paced and consisted of following several dermatologists as they met with clients (getting permission for photography, of course) and capturing the behind the scenes of the process while providing minimal direction. Some direction is always necessary when people are being photographed so that everyone sits or stands up straight and has the intended expression on their face (most of us don’t realize that we can look angry or dissatisfied when in reality we’re just concentrating on something). And yes, as we are still observing mask mandates, most images show doctors and patients wearing face coverings.
Another task was taking quick product photos so that several skincare lines can be promoted online and on social media, including the exclusive line created by the CT Dermatology Group and only available at their practice.
Because these sessions involved a lot of moving around and going in and out of rooms, the equipment being used was kept as minimal as possible. I used a simple speedlight flash on my camera and bounced the light off walls and ceiling, creating soft lighting to illuminate rooms and interiors that often had no windows. With photography, often it’s less about how much equipment you use and more about how well you are able to use it.
